The Gazelle reflects on the diminishing trust students have in the institution and how we can continue to hold our university accountable, amplify marginalized voices, and report honestly.

It would be a disservice if we leave here after four years stuck in a liminal space of not really defending and not really critiquing, without unpacking the inherent racialization of many of the ways in which migration issues are framed.

Not only do we need less bureaucratic hurdles to navigate but we need active, persistent and purposeful engagement from all members of our community — this includes students but also administration, staff and faculty.

Talking about gender is personal and messy, and can even be daunting in an academic setting. Here, we complicate and unpack these conversations in an attempt to build more inclusive curricula and classrooms.

Malala’s decision to marry brought forth a flurry of hot takes: celebration, joy, frustration and disappointment. But it is unfair to place the burden of fighting the oppressive institution of marriage on a single individual.

We ask for more on-campus vendors. We ask for more assistantships at higher wages. We ask for more paid summer opportunities. We ask for a temporary institutional fund. We can no longer assume institutional goodwill — we need to feel heard.

In conversation with NYU’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX and NYUAD’s Health Promotion and Sexual Misconduct Office, we break down the process of filing a formal complaint and accessing accommodations for survivors of sexual harm on campus.

From AZIZA to weSTEM, this International Women’s Day, it is urgent that we reflect on the importance of female and gender marginalized spaces on campus. However, we must also reflect on the emotional labor that goes into cultivating these spaces.
